Hillary Clinton responded to the San Bernardino shootings while in New Hampshire on Thursday, promising to continue to speak out against gun violence while on the campaign trail.
“During this campaign I will continue to speak out” on guns she said at the Women’s Economic Summit at Southern New Hampshire University. “Some don’t believe … we can stop every incident of gun violence but we sure can stop a lot of them. We need to take action now.”
The Democratic front-runner has released an extensive plan to curb gun violence by implementing greater restrictions on gun sales and banning assault weapons. During her remarks, the candidate tweeted “We cannot go on with losing 90 people a day to gun violence…We need to take action now.”
Republicans have fovused on signs that the attacks were a product of Islamic extremism. The motive hasn’t been confirmed.
Clinton responded, “No matter what motivation these shooters had, we can say one thing for certain—they shouldn’t have been able to do this.”
Although the gunmen in question legally bought guns in California, one of the states with the strictest gun laws in the United States, all three Democratic candidates have called for stricter gun control in the wake of the shooting. Clinton also cautioned that Americans should not stereotype Muslims because of the actions of this couple.
She said, “The vast majority of Muslim Americans are just as concerned and heartbroken about this as anyone else.”
