Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson won’t be charged in shooting

Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson won’t be charged in the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown, the Justice Department announced Wednesday.

“There is no evidence upon which prosecutors can rely to disprove Wilson’s stated subjective belief that he feared for his safety,” said the Justice Department report released Wednesday.

The decision was expected, as the Justice Department had a high threshold to prove that Wilson violated Brown’s civil rights.

The police officer has claimed he acted in self-defense.

The announcement, however, comes as the Justice Department accuses the Ferguson Police Department of racial bias, citing local cops’ routine traffic stops of minorities without reasonable suspicion.

Still the lack of charges against Wilson will disappoint many of the protesters who highlighted the Ferguson incident as proof of rampant police brutality against minorities suspected of crimes.
