James Carville leaves Fox News for camp Hillary?

Democratic strategist and long-time Clinton political loyalist James Carville has severed ties with Fox News, where he was a contributor, a Fox spokesperson confirmed to the Washington Examiner media desk.

It’s “very likely” Carville left Fox for a position on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign-in-waiting, a Fox source told the Examiner. Carville’s move was first reported by TV Newser.

Carville is a longtime friend of the Clintons. He was a top strategist in Bill Clinton’s 1992 campaign for president and an adviser to Hillary in her failed 2008 bid for the White House.

The Fox source said Carville attended a fundraiser for the Read for Hillary super PAC in April 2014, which was mostly attended by lobbyists with strong Democratic ties.

Politico reported Monday that Clinton, who has not publicly announced whether she will make a second run for president, has approved several staff hires and a “preliminary budget,” should she go through with a second presidential campaign.

Carville’s last appearance on Fox was on Oct. 30, 2014. That was the same day a report appeared that Carville would meet with Ready for Hillary organizers and other Democratic supporters for a “strategy session.”

Fox, like other news organizations, has rules prohibiting employees from engaging in partisan political activity. Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich had their contracts with Fox terminated when both made clear their intentions to run in the 2012 election.

Carville joined Fox in February 2014, after having parted ways with CNN where he was a contributor for several years. He is also a contributor at ABC News. His latest appearance for that network was on Jan. 11 on “This Week.”

A spokesperson denied that Carville has teamed up with Clinton. “James is a close friend of the Clinton’s but his focus is on his daughters and teaching at Tulane University,” he said.
