Dr. Ruth to become D.C.’s love secretary

District tourism officials think Washingtonians and city visitors need a “stimulus plan” for love and relationships, and they believe it should be modeled after “date nights” taken by the president and first lady.

They are answering this problem by bringing in Dr. Ruth.

Seriously.

Ruth Westheimer will be sworn in Thursday as the District’s honorary secretary of love and relationships by Councilman at-large Kwame Brown. She and others who attend the news conference also will have the opportunity to pose for pictures with wax figures of President Obama and Michelle Obama, on loan from Madame Tussauds in D.C.

Ruth will be used to help promote a monthlong initiative “to spark new romances and rekindle relationships” designed to boost Washington’s hospitality industry.

We’ll have more details on our new secretary of love and relationships in Friday’s paper.
