Washington was rocked by former Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens‘ death in a plane crash on Tuesday, and politicians, including President Obama, immediately began issuing statements to express the appropriate condolences.
But being that this is 2010, pols took to Facebook as well.
“A decorated World War II veteran, Senator Ted Stevens devoted his career to serving the people of Alaska and fighting for our men and women in uniform,” read President Obama’s Facebook fan page status. “Michelle and I extend our condolences to the entire Stevens family and to the families of those who perished alongside Senator Stevens in this terrible accident.”
Facebook-happy former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin used the social networking site to post her statement, which mixed policy with sympathy for Stevens’ family and the families of the other plane crash victims.
Former President George W. Bush and Sens. Mark Begich and Blanche Lincoln, among others, posted messages on Facebook as well.
