The Dalai Lama visited Congress on Tuesday and was awarded the Lantos Human Rights Prize for fighting human rights violations against the people of Tibet. Although he’s in town through the weekend, the Dalai Lama will not meet with President Obama until November, after the president has traveled to China.
“We have made clear that the president intends to meet with the Dalai Lama while he’s here,” said Mike Hammer, National Security Council spokesman.
But Obama will have to wait a while to be enlightened by the Tibetan spiritual leader.
Aside from accepting his award on the Hill, the Dalai Lama will speak at the Mind and Life Conference on Thursday and Friday, and will present half-day teachings on “The Heart of Change: Finding Wisdom in the Modern World” at Bender Arena at American University to a sold-out crowd Saturday.
