$86 million: The amount that President Obama raised for his reelection campaing between April to June, exceeding the campaign’s goal of $60 million while raising more than all the declared Republican candidates combined.
“We have reason to be proud of what we’ve built so far but it’s going to get tougher from here,” Obama campaign manager Jim Messina said in a video to supporters released Wednesday, explaining that the campaign received donations from more than 550,000 people, 98 percent of whom donated less than $250 (donations averaged around $69), with more than $47 million going to the “Obama for America” fund and over $38 million going to the Democratic National Committee.
Republican candidates are stepping up fundraising, but the numbers are comparatively small, with only $35 million raised between all candidates in the recent quarter. Mitt Romney leads the GOP field with more than $18 million raised over the past three months; Tim Pawlenty came in second last quarter with $4.2 million; and Jon Huntsman brought in $4.1 million, half of which came from his own coffers. Michele Bachmann hasn’t released her fundraising totals yet.
