Hollywood star Ben Affleck apparently had Hillary Clinton’s private email address, messaging her directly on the situation in DR Congo in April 2012.
“Dear Secretary Clinton,” Affleck wrote. “Past attempts at military reform have failed mainly due to the lack of political will from the Congolese government … Yet we believe this can change, and the time for that change is now.”
“Thank you for doing your part, Ben Affleck, Writer, Director and Founder of Eastern Congo Initiative,” he wrote.
Clinton then emailed members of her staff the next morning, indicating she would like to respond directly.
“I’d like to respond to Ben Affleck. Pls advise,” Clinton wrote.
After another two hours passed, and it appears Clinton received an email from a member of her staff reminding her to get on it.
“Madam Secretary: I think you should respond to Ben Affleck’s note,” staffer Johnnie Carson wrote.
The exchange was part of the latest round of Clinton emails released by the State Department.
