TimKaine.com gets another squatter

Tim Kaine just can’t get a break on the Internet. The outgoing Democratic National Committee chairman and former Virginia governor, who announced Tuesday that he plans to run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Democrat Jim Webb, had his domain name TimKaine.com hijacked a while back by Virginia Republican Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, or so it seemed. It appears as if someone might be having a little Internet fun.

When Yeas & Nays visited the website recently to see if Kaine had gotten it back, TimKaine.com redirected us to the official homepage of the Communist Party USA.

Cuccinelli’s people said they had nothing to do with it. “The AG’s campaign does not own the domain, has not owned it, and has no affiliation with it or with the person who does own it,” communications director Brian Gottstein told Yeas & Nays in an email.

The owner of TimKaine.com is listed as Domains by Proxy Inc., a company that, not surprisingly, keeps website owners’ personal information private.
