Bernie Sanders says that he is “not sorry at all” he let Hillary Clinton off the hook about her private email server during the first Democratic debate and that he will overcome her strong poll numbers to eventually win the nomination.
“No I am not sorry at all,” Sanders told Andrea Mitchell on MSNBC on Tuesday. “What campaigns are about is to discuss the major issues facing out country. The email investigation is a process going on, let it go on … I want to focus on the real issues.”
Sanders said during the Democratic debate that the public “is sick and tired of hearing about your damn emails. Since the debate, Clinton has received a clear bump in the polls and Sanders has suffered.
“[Clinton] is ahead in the polls because she is much better known than I am. But I think if you also ask the people in this country if they think we need fundamental changes in our campaign finance system, how do they feel about the campaign finance system, the fact that Hillary has as super PAC,” Sanders said. “My point is, Andrea, on issue after issues I am the candidate that is representing most effectively the families in this country.”
Asked about Marco Rubio being absent from Senate votes, Sanders acknoweldged it “is difficult and very time consuming” to serve and run for office simultaneously, but “it’s what I’m paid to do.” Sanders said he is certain he will miss votes “but I’m trying to miss as few as I can.”
