Kaine’s campaign blog rated top five in U.S.

When it comes to tech-savvy campaigns, no one tops the Commander in Chief. But his former handpicked leader of the Democratic Party isn’t far behind.

Andrew Clark, a former staffer on Sen. John McCain’s 2008 presidential election team, recently ranked the campaign blog for Virginia U.S. Senate candidate Tim Kaine as the fifth best in the country. In a piece for Campaigns & Elections magazine, Clark applauded Kaine’s blog for its “interesting commentary on events in the campaign, easy-to-see format, and attention-grabbing headlines” and predicted it will be “a standout in 2012.”

“While the posting frequency may not be as high as it could be, Kaine’s site has all the elements of a successful campaign blog,” Clark said.

Kaine, the Democratic frontrunner who served as chairman of the Democratic National Committee under President Obama, is expected to face Republican George Allen in next year’s election. The race between the two former governors is considered one of the most anticipated of the 2012 campaign season.

Unsurprisingly, Obama topped Clark’s list, building on his groundbreaking 2008 web campaign with an “eye-pleasing color-scheme and layout contrasts with the simplistic title, and the steady daily flow of content makes the page a reliable source of information,” Clark said.

Republican presidential contender Rep. Ron Paul takes second in the rankings, followed by Rob McKenna, Washington’s Republican attorney general making a run for the governorship, and San Diego mayoral candidate Nathan Fletcher, also a Republican.
