Zeke Emanuel, senior adviser to the Office of Management and Budget (and Rahm Emanuel‘s brother), brought more than ideas with him to Thursday’s Washington Ideas Festival. He brought food, too.
“I brought you jam that I made,” Emanuel said, handing over a jar of raspberry jam to Corby Kummer, the Atlantic Magazine’s principle food writer.
The audience giggled at the exchange, but there’s a backstory here. Seems Emanuel was on the hunt for “the greatest jam on earth” in August, after being disappointed by the jams for sale at area farmers markets. Combining only fruit and sugar, he learned to make his own jam and wrote about it for the Atlantic.
Emanuel was joined by White House chef Sam Kass to talk food policy at the forum. After the discussion, Kummer told Yeas & Nays that he kept the jam, but had yet to take a taste.
