Donald Trump lambasted the Obama administration’s agreement with Iran at a rally against the deal held on the west lawn of the Capitol on Wednesday. Trump promised to bring home the four Americans held hostage in Iran before becoming the next president of the United States.
“If I win the presidency, I guarantee you that those four prisoners are back in our country before I ever take office,” Trump said. “They know it and if they don’t know it I’m telling them right now.”
Trump’s comments on the Iran deal in Washington, D.C., seemed to include a harsher tone than he took in August. Last month, Trump told NBC it would be “very tough” to rip up the deal, but that he is “really good at looking at a contract” and that he “will be so tough on the contract.” On Wednesday afternoon, he called for immediate action against the bad deal.
“We are led by very stupid people. Very very stupid people. We cannot let it continue,” Trump said. “It will change. We will have so much winning if I get elected you may get bored with winning.”
Trump followed up to say you can never get bored with winning.
Before taking the stage Trump briefly greeted the press and promised to do more than many thought possible in dealing with the Iranians, but did not explain what that meant. He appeared onstage for a few minutes, as the speakers were supposed to be confined to two minutes each.
Trump’s short remarks follow an appearance he made on a radio show last week where he appeared not to know the name of General Soleimani, leader of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Quds Forces. Trump downplayed his lack of familiarity with Middle Eastern leaders.
“When you’re asking me about who’s running this, this this, that’s not, that is not, I will be so good at the military, your head will spin,” Trump told host Hugh Hewitt, who is one of the moderators for CNN’s upcoming GOP presidential debate. “I think what is really important is to pick out, and this is something I’m so good at, to pick out who is going to be the best person to represent us militarily, because we have some great people, militarily. I don’t know that we’re using them.”
Trump’s appearance at the rally was buttressed by another GOP presidential candidate Texas Sen. Ted Cruz who he greeted briefly before taking the stage. Several conservative personalities appeared after The Donald, including radio host Mark Levin. Trump—who usually rails against the establishment in Washington—seemed right at home on Wednesday.
