Naval Medical Center San Diego on lockdown over report of armed man

The Naval Medical Center in San Diego is on lockdown and people there are being asked to shelter in place after someone reported seeing an armed man, the complex said on Facebook Thursday morning.

“A caller to the hospital reported seeing an armed man on 4-West,” the Facebook post reads. “… As a measure of precaution, staff are sheltering in place — staff and patients en route to NMCSD are advised not to come to the hospital until the scene is cleared.”

According to Navy Times, the anonymous call matched another report of a patient seen with a weapon.

A similar report occurred at the same naval hospital in January, though it turned out to be a false alarm.

About 500 people work at the medical center, which is located on the grounds of Balboa Park in San Diego. It bills itself as the largest military healthcare system in the western United States.
