When Donald Trump’s first TV ad hits the airwaves in New Hampshire, it will run counter to a message Granite State voters have heard for the past week.
The anti-Trump Make America Awesome PAC has been running attack ads against the Republican presidential front-runner on four separate radio stations in New Hampshire since Dec. 29.
According to the PAC’s co-founder, Liz Mair, the minute-long ad “profiles Donald Trump’s record of fighting for himself, as opposed to the average Joes he purports to speak for in his presidential campaign.” The ad also criticizes Trump’s business record and questions his rhetoric on issues like taxes, wages and eminent domain.
“The Washington Post says the way Donald Trump got richer was at the expense of taxpayers, or the banks and investors who loaned him money,” Mair’s PAC has been telling listeners. “He’s even used government power to seize private property, and brags about it. That’s the real Trump record; fighting for himself, not for us.”
Meanwhile, Trump’s ad, which will begin airing Tuesday in both New Hampshire and Iowa, details a handful of his most controversial proposals on issues like national security and illegal immigration. Trump’s campaign plans to release additional TV ads as the nominating contests in early voting states draw near.
Mair’s PAC, co-founded by Florida-based Republican strategist Rick Wilson, went live in mid-December on the eve of the final GOP debate of 2015. The PAC’s website claims it’s focused on using “unconventional and cost-effective tactics” to “dump Trump.”
Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks recently told the Wall Street Journal the anti-Trump ad was developed by “low level” political operatives. She claimed Trump was “actually complimented by the ad.”
