Samuel L. Jackson adds liar to his criticism of Trump

Actor Samuel L. Jackson said Donald Trump lied when he tweeted that the two have never met and reiterated his comments that the Republican presidential front-runner cheats when playing golf.

The feud started when an interview with Jackson in the January issue of Rhapsody Magazine went viral Tuesday morning. He claimed that not only does the billionaire mogul cheat at golf, but also that Trump tried to get him to pay club membership dues that Jackson had no memory of incurring.

Trump passive-aggressively attacked “The Hateful Eight” star Tuesday on Twitter, saying the two had never met and that he was “not a fan” of Jackson in general.

Jackson appeared on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” Tuesday night to set the record straight on all counts. First, he clarified the mysterious bill he received from Trump’s golf club.

“No I didn’t pay. I got a bill but I didn’t pay,” Jackson told Meyers. “I had my assistant call and say, no, I don’t really belong to that club and I haven’t been there in three years. And they go, well, you are a member and here’s your member number. They were charging me some pool fee. I hadn’t been there!”

Then he brought up a specific instance when the two golfed together with another celebrity, and he distinctly recalled something fishy happening while on the links.

“Yeah, I’ve met him a lot,” Jackson said. “I’ve played golf with him. I actually played golf with him with [‘Blackish’ star] Anthony Anderson one day. We were all playing together and we clearly saw him hook a ball into a lake at Trump National [Golf Club] in Jersey. And his caddy told him he found it.”

“Was the caddy soaking wet when he said this?” Seth asked.

“No, he was not,” Jackson said. “He just took off running and the next thing we know, ‘I got it Mr. Trump!’ We were like, ‘Did you see a splash? Yeah, I saw a splash.'”

Anderson backed up that story with a tweet earlier Tuesday evening.

Jackson also brought up another high-profile person who could place him and Trump together on a golf course, though he clarified that Trump was not golfing in this instance.

“[Trump] called me one day, I was here in New York,” Jackson said. “He would always call me: ‘Samuel L. The Don.’ ‘Who?’ ‘The Don.’ ‘Oh Mr. Trump, how ya doing today?’ ‘Are you busy today?’ ‘No.’ ‘You want to play golf?’ ‘Sure.’ ‘Well I’m not going to play but I have a friend who wants to play and we’re going to play in my club’ … When I get there, it was President Clinton, who can also verify that Donald Trump knows me.

“Don did show up, and he took Bill in and bought him a jacket, and gave me nothing,” Jackson concluded.

Meyers joked that Clinton probably would not confirm the story because he would not want to admit that he had ever golfed with Trump. He also said that, if Jackson is telling the truth, it could be the final blow to Trump’s presidential aspirations.

“If we can prove that Donald Trump is lying when he says he doesn’t know you, this might be the thing that finally brings down his campaign,” Meyers said.

To which Jackson responded with a smile: “Let’s get on that.”
