Fox News anchor Greta Van Susteren on Friday hit back at critics who compared one of her recent program news segments to something that might come out of state-run media meant to glorify dictators.
On her show Thursday, Van Susteren aired a profile on Republican nominee Donald Trump’s family, accompanied by heralding music and golden graphics.
News blogger Oliver Darcy shared a clip from the special on social media. “This special feels like something you’d see on state-run television somewhere,” he said on Twitter.
The popular media news blog Mediaite said Van Susteren’s special had “eerie North Korea undertones.”
Liberal MSNBC host Chris Hayes said the graphics and music were “a glimpse of what state media will look like after Glorious Leader Trump is victorious.”
Van Susteren said she has offered to do similar news specials on both Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders and that her critics are making a big deal about nothing.
“We have made the same offer of same interview with families of Clinton and Sanders — offer still open to them,” she told the Washington Examiner in an email on Friday. “Neither responded to our multiple offers which is their right. It was a light piece about families and not policy since family members are not the candidates. It must be a slow day for some to be obsessed with graphics.”
