‘Morning Express’ keeps the heat on ‘Morning Joe’

Just call it the little morning show that is.

While there has been much ado about the successful pairing of former Republican Rep. Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” including a flattering and lengthy profile in Sunday’s New York Times, there’s another show that’s taking on “Joe” in the ratings.

That would be “Morning Express” on CNN’s Headline News channel with host Robin Meade. While the New York Times accurately reported that “Joe” has pulled ahead of CNN’s “American Morning,” the MSNBC show actually comes in fourth behind “Fox and Friends” (which is No. 1 by a long shot), “Morning Express” and “American Morning” in the key 25-to-54 age demographic, according to recent Nielsen ratings.

In the last year, viewership for Meade’s show has grown by 22 percent in the 25-to-54 age demographic, and by 12 percent overall.

Meade is a best-selling author of the book “Morning Sunshine! How to Radiate Confidence and Feel It, Too” and once won the distinction of being “America’s Sexiest Newscaster,” thanks to Playboy.
