Cruz: Trump is ‘beclowning himself with daily attacks’

Ted Cruz said Donald Trump has made a fool of himself over the past week as he’s tried to respond to controversies about his campaign.

“When he’s in trouble he starts yelling, he starts screaming, he starts insulting,” Cruz said Friday on Fox News’ O’Reilly Factor. “Donald Trump is just beclowning himself with his daily insults and attacks.”

The Texas senator’s criticism comes as the Manhattan businessman has attempted to defend his campaign manager Corey Lewandowski’s alleged battery of a reporter. Trump has also walked back comments he made Tuesday that abortion providers and patients should be punished.

Trump, still the front-runner in the Republican party, has gone on the offensive, attacking Cruz on social media but focusing much of his media appearances explaining why he will not fire Lewandowski.

Despite the consistent attacks from Trump’s campaign, Cruz said his focus is not on the competition, but instead building momentum in the race.

Recent polls show Cruz has picked up support in Wisconsin, opening up a five-point lead over Trump in the Badger State, where Republican primary voters will hit the polls April 5.
