Cruz would enforce gun restrictions against domestic abusers

Sen. Ted Cruz says that if elected president, he would enforce existing laws that ban domestic abusers from buying a firearm.

“It’s existing law, that someone convicted of domestic abuse can’t buy a firearm,” Cruz said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “My job as president is to enforce the law.”

Cruz has accused President Obama of trying to seize Americans’ guns, after the president announced last week a series of gun control measures through executive action. A new page on Cruz’s campaign website depicts Obama in a Nazi-esque outfit with the phrase “Obama wants your guns.”

But asked by host Jake Tapper about whether he would try to ease existing restrictions on domestic abusers obtaining guns, Cruz indicated he wouldn’t do so.
