Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’s campaign just nabbed Alice Stewart, the former communications director of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee’s 2016 presidential campaign. Stewart, the Cruz campaign confirmed, will work as a senior adviser and spokesperson for the Cruz team.
Stewart left the Huckabee campaign less than one month ago, and her departure raised eyebrows about the viability of the former governor’s campaign that has remained stuck at two percentage points in RealClearPolitics’ average of national polls. At the time of her exit, Huckabee shrugged off the notion that Stewart’s departure would portend future negative results for the campaign.
Cruz and Huckabee will lock horns for similar voting blocs in Iowa as the caucuses loom less than one month away. Huckabee, who won Iowa in 2008, is planning to barnstorm Iowa with 150 stops in the Hawkeye State before the first ballots are cast and has defended his supporters’ ads that label Cruz a hypocrite.
Cruz ranks first in the Washington Examiner‘s newest GOP presidential power rankings.
