Sanders, Clinton claim Latino voters

Democratic presidential opponents Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders each insisted Sunday they won among Latino voters in Nevada’s primary Saturday.

“Nationally, it is clear we’re doing better and better with Latino voters,” Sanders said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “We have enormous momentum.”

While some exit polls suggested Sanders did better among Latinos voters than Clinton, Clinton won the most heavily Latino regions of Nevada.

Clinton told CNN she doesn’t believe exit polls “are particularly accurate.” She has traditionally performed well among Latinos, beating Obama by more than 2-to-1 among that minority group in 2008.

“If you look at the precincts where we dominated, there’s evidence we did very very well with every group of voter,” Clinton said.

Clinton also handily beat Sanders among African-American voters in Nevada on Saturday. Sanders readily admitted Sunday that Clinton trounced him among black voters, but vowed his campaign will do better once they learn more about his ideas to reform the criminal justice system.

“We did badly with the African-American vote,” Sanders said.

But he said when they “hear our message on a broken criminal justice system,” they’ll start suporting his campaign more.
