Canada’s confusing road sign. This billboard in Canada is made of old road signs, and once the current wrapping was taken off, drivers got very confused.
Make Congress Great Again. That’s what Lee Drutmand and TWS contributor Kevin Kosar argue in the New York Times. They write:
“How to murder your husband.” It may come as little surprise that an author of a book with that name has been accused of doing precisely that.
The Winking Lizard turns 35! In 2016, as Republicans descended on Cleveland for the GOP convention, I got to advise my fellow TWS and Examiner colleagues on all of the hot spots in my hometown. My favorite local restaurant chain is the Winking Lizard, and they recently celebrated 35 years of success. The Lizard earned plaudits from Steve Hayes and Bill Kristol, and even the Trump kids dined there. Cheers to the Lizard! To 35 more!
“Macdonald was right to avoid topicality.” That’s what Sonny Bunch argues in the Washington Post, saying: “It’s hard to imagine anything more pointless than giving an iconoclast like Macdonald a talk show and then asking him to talk about things that will only generate negative headlines on social media. The world doesn’t really need another John Oliver or Samantha Bee or Trevor Noah regurgitating the day’s correct and proper thoughts with a slightly caustic spin or a slightly dirty word in order to earn modernity’s last acceptable form of praise: clapter.”
The NRA is losing it. The gun rights organization and its top public face did a video segment where they put KKK hoods on the characters from Thomas the Tank Engine. As the NYTimes reports:
Their attempts to “own the libs™” always seem to backfire. Maybe they should stick to guns?
Department of Make Believe. In a unintentional parody of the movie In Bruges, the two Russian men suspected in the Skripal poisoning in the U.K. have an unbelievable exchange with Russian propaganda outlet RT. Yes, they were there as tourists to see Salisbury’s big steeple. Clearly.
Frying Pan Cam. As Hurricane Florence makes landfall, we at TWS have been watching this livecam of the Frying Pan ocean cam. The Frying Pan is a Texas Tower 30-some miles off the coast of North Carolina. Now the old structure, not unlike an oil rig, is a hotel. You can learn more about the unique structure here.
The most interesting loser. Meet Scott Walker. No, not that Scott Walker. Delaware’s Scott Walker, longshot GOP hopeful for The First State’s lone House seat. At IJR, Alex Thomas has a chat with one of the zaniest candidates still in the running to win a seat in Congress.
