LOS ANGELES (AP) — President Barack Obama will visit Los Angeles for an overnight trip during which he will discuss the nation’s economy and designate a swath of Southern California mountains as a national monument
The president is scheduled to arrive around 2 p.m. Thursday at Los Angeles International Airport.
The White House says Obama will discuss the progress of the economy at an event in Santa Monica.
He will also attend a Democratic National Committee fundraiser and remain overnight.
The president is also planning to name 346,000 acres within the San Gabriel Mountains northeast of Los Angeles as a national monument.
A White House official, speaking on condition of anonymity ahead of Friday’s announcement, says Obama’s order will ensure the land is permanently protected.
