College says first lady delivering address because student gave her husband a pen

First lady Michelle Obama’s commencement address schedule was released last week, and one school has a cute theory about how it landed in the lineup. North Carolina A&T State University says a student approached President Obama when he visited nearby Guilford Technical Community College last October. “One of our students had given him an NC A&T pen,” college spokesperson Nicole Pride told Yeas & Nays. “He invited Obama.” At deadline, the White House press office was looking in to if the student’s gift of a ballpoint pen influenced the first lady’s commencement schedule.
