Scotland is still part of the United Kingdom.
The country will stay a part of the U.K. after 55 percent — or about 2 million people — voted against the referendum Thursday.
Approximately 1.6 million, or 44 percent, voted “yes,” according to BBC News.
The total electorate in Scotland is about 4.28 million; turnout was 84.59 percent.
Only four councils had “yes” votes of more than half it’s population: Dundee City (57.35 percent), West Dunbartonshire (53.96 percent), Glasglow (53.49 percent) and North Lanarkshire (51.07 percent).
Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond called for unity and urged the unionist parties to deliver on more powers.
UK Prime Minister David Cameron expressed his delight over the continued unity of the U.K., promising the Scottish Parliament will get more powers.
