Exonerated Lewandowski vows to ‘double efforts’ to elect Trump

Donald Trump’s campaign manager Corey Lewandowski broke his silence Thursday to address what he admitted have been a tense couple of weeks after he was accused of assaulting a campaign reporter at a press conference March 8.

The exonerated top aide told Fox News’ Sean Hannity he was most thankful for Trump’s “loyalty” throughout the ordeal, adding the ordeal and subsequent media coverage have been taxing on his family and friends.

Lewandowski said the accusations, made by Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields, was a “huge distraction for the campaign.”

“If Michelle Fields wanted to have a conversation, we could have had a conversation privately and not made this the story that it is today,” Lewandowski said. “I’m glad it’s behind us. I’m glad there are no charges moving forward and I’m ready to double my effort in this campaign to make sure Mr. Trump is elected.”

He cited the surveillance equipment in the Trump-owned facility where the incident took place as a major factor in the Palm Beach County prosecutor’s decision to exonerate him of the battery charge.

Lewandowksi said he has never spoken to or communicated with Fields to this day, even telling Hannity he would not turn down meeting with her after everything that has happened.

“I’m also a Catholic and a religious person and I think people deserve forgiveness who ask for it, and I’m not saying that in a bad way,” Lewandowski said. “I don’t need enemies I need friends, just like Donald Trump, we’re gonna bring people together and make our party bigger and better and stronger … that’s how we’re going to be successful moving forward.”
