Washington Post’s Wilbon moving on

It’s another big loss for the Washington Post.

After more than three decades, veteran sports columnist Michael Wilbon announced he will leave the paper for a broadcast gig with ESPN/ABC.

In a memo obtained by FishbowlDC on Thursday afternoon, Post editors conceded they were not surprised by the news.

“The ESPN/ABC rocket ship that Michael Wilbon has been riding the past several years has finally left our orbit,” the memo read.

It continued to say the decision did not come easy for Wilbon, and “in fact, he long hoped that he would not have to make it.”

No word on when Wilbon’s last day will be, but according to editors, he will “earn a few more bylines before the end of the year.”
