Calif. Gov. Jerry Brown pardons Robert Downey Jr. for drug offenses

California Gov. Jerry Brown on Thursday pardoned “Iron Man” movie star Robert Downey Jr. for his past drug offenses.

Downey was convicted in 1996 for possession of a controlled substance, carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle with a prior conviction, and driving under the influence. He went on to serve over a year in prison and two and a half years on probation.

Brown noted that in October, Downey received an order from a Los Angeles county court testifying that following his release from custody, he “lived an honest and upright life, exhibited good moral character, and conducted himself as a good law-abiding citizen.

The Downey pardon was one of 91 pardons granted by the governor on Christmas Eve.
