Megyn Kelly: GOP debate will go on without Trump

Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, currently in a public feud with leading Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, said Tuesday that the next GOP debate hosted by her network this week will happen, regardless of Trump’s threats.

The next one of the debates, which have become TV ratings sensations in large part due to Trump’s participation, is scheduled for Thursday. It will be the last time all the GOP candidates share a stage before the Iowa caucuses Monday.

Trump, who is effectively tied with Ted Cruz to win Iowa, said earlier in the day that he would “most likely” not show up for the debate because Kelly, who will co-moderate, is “really biased against me.” Trump said he would instead host a fundraiser for wounded war veterans.

The feud between the two goes back to the first debate last summer when Kelly confronted Trump with a series of past statements he has made disparaging some women. Trump said the question was “unfair” and accused Kelly of deliberately targeting him more than the other candidates.

Fox has responded this week by mocking Trump in press releases and maintaining that Kelly would stay put as a co-moderator.

“I’ll be there,” Kelly said on her show Tuesday. “The debate will go on with or without Mr. Trump.”
