Everyone has been talking about John Heilemann and Mark Halperin’s “Game Change,” and some even call the tale of the 2008 presidential campaign “poli-porn.”
“You’ll have to forgive us if we seem a little dazed and confused,” Halperin said at Politics and Prose on Tuesday about the book’s success.
Heilemann said it wasn’t hard to get most to talk — almost 300 face-to-face interviews were conducted for the book.
“They knew that they had been involved in a race that was historically significant, and they wanted that story to be told,” he said.
However, there is one prominent figure who wouldn’t talk until the book’s rights were sold to HBO, the authors said.
“The day the deal was announced in the papers, John’s phone rang, and it was this person asking when they could do an interview,” Halperin said.
The authors, however, remained tight-lipped about the source’s identity. Which, in this town, will make for quite a parlor game in months to come.
