Belgian police release journalist arrested after terrorist attack

Belgian police on Monday night released a freelance journalist who had been held in police custody for four days as a suspect in last week’s terrorist attack.

After detaining Faycal Cheffou for four days, government officials admitted the individual was not the “man in the dark hat” in publicly released surveillance videos from the Brussels Airport bombing. That third suspect is still at large six days after the March 22 attacks that killed 35 people and wounded more than 270.

The Belgian magistrate told a source they were able to rule out Cheffou as a suspect due to new evidence. Law enforcement has posted a 32-second video on its website asking for the public’s help identifying the only individual that has yet to be identified.

Brussels police have conducted military-style nightly raids in the week since the attack. On Monday, three more people connected to terrorist activities were apprehended in the capital city, but officials did not specify how or if they were involved in last week’s bombings.
