MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell: Trump supporters ‘have failed an intelligence test’

Liberal MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell thinks Donald Trump supporters are dumb.

The crew on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Thursday debated Trump’s potential impact on the Republican presidential primary contest, noting that he polls in second place at 11 percent nationally in a recent Fox News survey.

“It’s sad to see what happens to these [GOP] candidates when they get into this thing but look, they’re in a field where they look at a poll and 11 percent right now are going for Donald Trump,” O’Donnell said. “Republican primary voters are given an intelligence test every four years by the pollsters and a shocking number of them do very, very badly in that intelligence test. And what they’re not attracted to in that polling is Rhodes Scholar type resume points.”

The Washington Examiner was unable to find the “intelligence test” O’Donnell was referring to and he did not return a request for comment about it.

“Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski asked O’Donnell if he may just have an “inability to intellectually put your arms around Trump in the media echo chamber.” She said, “And yet, you go out into America and Donald Trump walks down any street in America and he is surrounded by as many people are there to take pictures and love him and want to be a part of whatever it is that he’s got.”

O’Donnell said that anyone who would “seriously” vote for Trump, a real estate mogul and reality TV personality, had “failed an intelligence test of how government works.”

“What I’d like to think is everybody in there is helping us [in the news media],” O’Donnell said. “They’re saying, ‘You know what, we want to get him on the stage.’ They’re voting like ‘American Idol’ voters. It’s just, ‘We want to keep him on the stage.’ This is too funny.”

Trump on Monday formally filed his Statement of Candidacy with the Federal Election Commission, signifying legitimate intent to seek the presidency.
