Lead singer Andy Sullivan said the song “Lincoln Town Car” was inspired by his coverage of the Jack Abramoff scandal. Some of the song’s lyrics were pulled directly from Abramoff’s BlackBerry messages with Michael Scanlon on the topic of golf.
From Sullivan’s experience covering Abramoff, Scooter Libby and other scandal-related figures for Reuters, he said there always was a Lincoln Town Car waiting for defendants outside the courthouse.
“That seemed to the white-collar defendant car of choice,” Sullivan said.
