Greece’s Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will remain in office after Greek voters chose to put him back in power during a Sunday vote.
An official projection of the results in Greece’s early election shows Tsipras’ party Syriza will win 35 percent of the vote, but won’t get enough seats to form its own government, according to the Associated Press.
With victory for the leftist party imminent, opposition party New Democracy conceded defeat, according to the Guardian newspaper.
Tsipras called for snap elections earlier this year, even though he was elected to power back in January on a mandate to fight European austerity measures.
But Tsipras was forced to back a European bailout deal earlier this year after a crisis where ATMs ran out of cash and Greek banks were forced to close. In August Tsipras lost his parliamentary majority, according to the BBC.
