Much attention was given to the warm decor at last week’s State Dinner to honor Korean President Lee Myung-bak at the White House, where guests were greeted by a lush-looking spread of autumn touches including arrangements with mixes of fall foliage, bamboo shoots, mums, hydrangeas, chrysanthemums and fresh apples. But the first lady Michelle Obama didn’t just let those extra decorations go to waste. One centerpiece — a large apple made with hundreds of smaller apples (most of which were artificial) — was made from apples used for the State Dinner, going to decorate the scene on the South Lawn during Michelle Obama’s latest “Let’s Move!” party on Monday. The event included more than a thousand guests – school cafeteria workers, nutritionists and school principals — who were there to celebrate the HealthierUS School Challenge, a voluntary initiative meant to help schools participating in the school lunch program to develop healthier food choices for students.
