The Republican National Committee blasted Hillary Clinton’s record on North Korea Wednesday, hours after Clinton released a statement denouncing the rogue state and its claims to having tested a nuclear weapon.
“Despite promising an ‘aggressive effort’ to combat North Korea’s nuclear ambitions during her confirmation hearing, as secretary of state, Hillary Clinton largely ignored North Korea with a policy of ‘strategic patience’ that did not work,” the RNC said in an email.
The RNC also criticized her husband.
“While Clinton was secretary, former President Bill Clinton tried to cash in with a paid speaking event in North Korea,” the RNC said.
Clinton called for more United Nations action Wednesday, but that likely won’t assuage the RNC’s concerns.
“The only accomplishment Clinton can point to is a largely symbolic U.N. Security Council resolution that analysts agreed was toothless,” the email said.
The RNC argues that Clinton halted American action against the country.
“Clinton opposed calls by U.S. allies in the region and a bipartisan group of lawmakers to place North Korea on the list of state sponsors of terrorism,” the email said.
