Jeb Bush identified himself as ‘Hispanic’ on 2009 voter form

On a 2009 voter registration form, Jeb Bush identified himself as Hispanic.

The former Florida governor and 2016 Republican presidential hopeful often boasts his deep ties to the Hispanic community — he speaks fluent Spanish, his wife is Mexican and he lived in Venezuela for two years. And according to a 2009 Miami-Dade County Elections Department voter-registration application form, he marked Hispanic in the “race/ethnicity” field.

A Bush spokeswoman could not explain the characterization to the New York Times, which found the voter registration form.

Bush, who has not yet officially declared his intentions for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, currently leads a RealClearPolitics average of polls. With 16.8 points, Bush is a mere 0.6 points ahead of Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.
