A new Gallup poll says just a third of those asked approve of how President Obama has handled Iran, a dismal number that Obama will have to overcome if he hopes to sell the Iran nuclear agreement to Congress.
Gallup says just 33 percent approve of Obama’s efforts with Iran, while 55 percent disapprove. Obama’s approval rating on Iran was the lowest of any of the eight issues raised. It was lower than his approval on foreign affairs generally (39 percent), and the issue of terrorism (41 percent).
His numbers on Iran look most similar to his approval on immigration (36 percent support, 61 percent opposed), another issue critics charge he has handled both poorly and unilaterally, without input from Republicans.
Obama’s approval rating didn’t rise above 50 percent on any of the other issues, which also included race relations, education, climate change and the economy. His disapproval rating was higher than 50 percent in all the issues except education and climate change.
