Tractor accident critically injures former Rep. Traficant

Former Rep. Jim Traficant, who infamously lectured the entire House of Representatives before they expelled him for corruption, was critically injured Tuesday in a tractor accident at his home.

Traficant was found trapped underneath his tractor on Tuesday night, Ohio’s WFMJ reported. The tractor may have flipped over while Traficant was pulling the tractor to his barn.

Traficant, 73, a Democrat who represented the Youngstown area, served seven years in prison for bribery and racketeering. He was released in 2009.

The House voted to expel him in 2002 after he refused to resign following his conviction.

Before the 420-1 vote to oust him, Traficant delivered a 45 minute diatribe on the House floor, with every lawmaker required to sit and listen. He is one of only a handful of lawmakers to ever be expelled from the House.

According to WFMJ, Traficant’s wife, Tish Traficant, said the former congressman is alive but in critical condition at St. Elizabeth’s Health Center.
