More Good Stuff: D.C.’s burger ‘king’ set to open pizza place

As if his popular burger joint the Good Stuff Eatery wasn’t doing “good” enough — with its Obama Burger winning Rachael Ray’s Burger Bash last week and its Washington clientele consisting of everyone from first lady Michelle Obama to actress Kerry Washington — celebrity chef and former Top Chef contestant Spike Mendelsohn is preparing to open another Capitol Hill restaurant. And for his second D.C. endeavor he’s swapping loaded burgers for crispy pizza.

“It’s right next door, right there, and it’s going to be called We, The Pizza,” Mendelsohn revealed to Yeas & Nays. The Pennsylvania Avenue pizza place is scheduled to open in December or January and will serve New York style thin-crust pizza by the pie and by the slice.

Much like Good Stuff’s homemade milkshakes, We, The Pizza will offer homemade gelato and “old school” sodas.

“It’s going to be much like the formula of Good Stuff,” said Mendelsohn. “It’s going to be really hip, really clean, it’s going to be farm fresh.”

Another selling point: The restaurant will offer curbside service.

“I don’t think anybody does that,” said Mendelsohn. “There’s such a limit in parking here, so it just made sense, why not run the pizza out to you?”

And if burgers are still your fave, Mendelsohn’s single location is expanding to other D.C. neighborhoods, too, with Good Stuffs being planned around Foggy Bottom and Union Station.
