The State Department is reportedly prepared to release a few hundred pages of Hillary Clinton’s private emails this weekend, in a bid to placate a court that said all of those emails were supposed to be released a few weeks ago.
CNN and others reported that State is ready to release about 550 of the remaining 3,700 on Saturday. Clinton used a private email system while serving as secretary of state, and officials have classified 1,300 of those emails, after Clinton insisted that no sensitive information was on those emails.
A few dozen other emails have been classified as “top secret” and will not be released.
State agreed to release all of Clinton’s emails in stages, pursuant to a court order. But State said in January it needed more time for the last batch.
On Wednesday, the federal judge who ordered the release of all the emails by January indicated his frustration with State’s delay, but said it’s unclear what he could do other than give State the time it needs to ensure no classified information is released in the emails.
Judge Rudolph Contreras also asked State to release some smaller number of emails by Feb. 18, or “sooner.”
