Jesse Jackson Jr. cancels fundraiser

Well, there goes our breakfast plans.

Yeas & Nays has learned that Illinois Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. canceled his breakfast fundraiser scheduled for Tuesday morning at Sonoma Restaurant on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Now why would he go and do a thing like that?

We asked his office, but didn’t hear back, so we sent an inquiry to Political Development Group’s Brooks Banton (whose name is listed as the invite’s RSVP contact). “Sorry, but this event is no longer taking place at this time,” Banton told Yeas & Nays. “Not sure yet when it will be rescheduled for.”

A Yeas & Nays source told us the breakfast was canceled last week but couldn’t tell us why it was called off.

Last week, Yeas & Nays reported that Jackson had issued an apology for his relationship with former model and Ozio Restaurant and Lounge hostess Giovana Huidobro. That apology came after the Chicago Sun-Times reported that the Democrat asked Chicago businessman Raghuveer Nayak to fly a “social acquaintance” (Huidobro) from Washington, D.C., to Chicago to visit him on two separate occasions.

Jackson’s wife Sandi talked to the Chicago Sun-Times during the weekend about her husband’s alleged affair and acknowledged the allegations.

“I’d known about it nearly two years ago because Jesse told me late one night in Washington,” she recalled. She said in the beginning she blamed herself, but now feels bad for her husband because “he is remorseful over this firestorm he’s created around us.”

Maybe that’s why he’s not up for a breakfast party?
