Brussels cancels New Year’s celebrations over terrorist threat

Brussels Mayor Yvan Mayeur announced the cancellation of formal New Year’s festivities in light of a terrorist threat Wednesday.

No fireworks will be shot over the European capital, among other cancellations. No details on the nature of the threat have been provided.

Brussels has been on high alert for terrorist activity since the November terrorist attacks in Paris that killed 130.
