Democratic Sens. Cory Booker, Ed Markey retain seats

Incumbent Democratic Sens. Cory Booker of New Jersey and Ed Markey of Massachusetts each won their respective re-election contests, according to CNN.

Both were heavily favored going into Tuesday. Booker defeated Jeff Bell, and Markey bested Brian Herr. Both challengers are Republicans.

Booker, the former mayor of Newark, N.J., won a special election in 2013 to replace the late Democratic Sen. Frank Lautenberg. Markey also won a special election in 2013 to fill the seat vacated by Secretary of State John Kerry.
