Sen. Ted Cruz won the 2014 Values Voter Summit straw poll Saturday.
The Texas Republican received 25 percent of votes at the annual conference. Ben Carson came in second with 20 percent, with former Arkansas Republican Gov. Mike Huckabee in third at 12 percent, according to Talking Points Memo.
Cruz was also the winner of the summit’s 2013 straw poll.
He addressed the summit Friday and called for voters to help Republicans retake the Senate in the midterm elections.
“If you want to defend the First Amendment — our free speech, our religious liberty — vote Harry Reid out. If you want to defend our Second Amendment, our right to keep and bear arms, vote Harry Reid out,” Cruz said.
Cruz is leading a conservative effort against holding a vote during the lame-duck session on whomever President Obama appoints as Eric Holder’s replacement for Attorney General.
Hillary Clinton leads Cruz by nearly 14 points in a hypothetical 2016 presidential matchup, according to RealClearPolitics.
