Obama on budget deal: ‘A Christmas miracle!’

President Obama listed the Supreme Court making gay marriage national law last June as one of the country’s top achievements in 2015.

“Love won. No matter who you are, here in America, you’re free to marry the person you love, because the freedom to marry is now the law in all fifty states,” Obama said Saturday in his weekly address to the nation.

Obama cited the landmark ruling as number two on a list of “the top 10 things that happened in 2015.”

“Number three: A pair of Christmas miracles in Washington! This week, Congress passed a bipartisan budget that invests in middle-class priorities, keeps our military the strongest in the world,” Obama said.

The president also hailed diplomatic achievements, including his nuclear deal with Iran and the resumption of relations with Cuba.

“We turned the page on an outdated, half-century old policy by re-establishing diplomatic relations with Cuba and reopening embassies in both our countries, allowing us to build greater ties between Americans and Cubans,” Obama said.

Obama’s top-ranked item was not quite an event. “It’s you — the American people,” he said. “All of this progress is because of you.”

“When we’re united as Americans, there’s nothing that we cannot do.”
