U.S. healthcare worker who handled Ebola specimen quarantined on cruise ship in Belize

A Dallas healthcare worker who handled a lab specimen from Thomas Eric Duncan, the man who died of Ebola in Texas, is currently quarantined on a cruise ship in Belize.

The woman, who requested anonymity, is self-quarantined on the Carnival Magic, now stopped in Belize. Other passengers are allowed to leave, according to the Associated Press.

The woman has so far shown no signs of the disease, State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Friday.

Psaki also revealed that when the woman left on the cruise ship from Galveston, Texas, on Oct. 12, health officials were only requiring self-monitoring. Though she poses “no risk,” authorities want her off the cruise ship and back in the United States for precautionary measures, one official said.

Nina Pham, the first nurse to test positive for the virus, arrived at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Md., Thursday evening.
