Poll: Rubio plummets in Fla. while Trump skyrockets

A new survey shows support for Florida Sen. Marco Rubio’s presidential campaign in his home state has plummeted while Donald Trump is running away with the Sunshine State.

Trump leads the Florida Atlantic University poll with the support of 47.6 percent of those surveyed, followed by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz at 16.3 percentage points, Rubio at 11.1 points and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush at 9.5 points. No other candidate polled in the double digits.

Trump’s support grew by 11 percentage points since November, while Cruz gained six points, and Rubio dropped seven percentage points. Ben Carson dropped 11 percentage points since November, and he now polls just above three percentage points in Florida.

“At this point, Donald Trump is simply crushing the opposition in the Florida Republican primary,” Kevin Wagner, associate professor of political science at FAU, said in a statement. “Not only has he increased his lead, Mr. Trump’s favorability ratings among Republicans are now ahead of his competitors by a substantial margin.”

The FAU poll surveyed 386 likely Republican voters and has a 4.9 percentage point margin of error. It is the second in as many days to show Trump coasting in Florida. An Insider Advantage survey released on Tuesday also showed Trump with a double-digit lead on Cruz.
