The Bush brotherly love is real.
Speaking at the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society conference in Chicago on Wednesday, former President George W. Bush acknowledged that his brother Jeb Bush — a likely Republican presidential candidate — will have to deal with the challenging fact that they are brothers during his campaign.
Which is why “you won’t see me out there” so he “doesn’t need to defend me,” the 43rd president said. Bush also added that his brother is “totally different” from him — prepping for the comparisons and critics arguing that we’ve “had enough Bushes” in office.
The former president said his role in his brother’s likely run for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination will not be as an adviser, but to simply tell him he loves him, because running for higher office is taxing.
“So I said to Jeb, ‘Hang in there; you can do the job. Will you win? I hope so but I don’t know.’ But if he does, he’d be a damn good president I’ll tell you that,” the former president said.
Jeb Bush, the 43rd governor of Florida, has not officially declared, though is likely to in the coming weeks. If and when he enters the race, he’s in a good position. According to a RealClearPolitics average of polls, he is leading a crowded Republican field with 16.5 points. His next closest competitors are Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (15.3) and officially declared candidate Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (10.5).
